Number of American Singles You Have Meet to Find a Soulmate
|
Gender Preference Probability of American Singles
We are assuming that 98% of American singles are heterosexual and 2% are homosexual. This percent is very close to reported surveys and studies on homosexuality.
|
Height Probability of American Singles
Height of American singles came from the National Center for Health Statistics. Height distribution curves of American males and females where calculated to figure out what percent of singles, based on their gender, were what height.
|
Ethnicity Probability of American Singles
Ethnicity statistics of American singles came from the U.S. Census 2000 Report.
|
Religion Probability of American Singles
Religion statistics of American singles came from the U.S. Census 2000 Report.
|
Marital Status Probability of American Singles
Marital status of American singles came from the U.S. Census 2000 Report. In addition to those who never married, we are assuming those who are separated, divorced, and widowed to be single as well. Only singles above the age of 18 were included in the calculations.
Because marital status varies for different ages, your selected age range was used to select out singles from each marital status population.
|
Traits Probability Factor of American Singles
We assumed a normal distribution. The total percent of people is the area under the distribution curve formed by the bottom and top percentile constraints. In other words, the final probability will be the top percentile minus the bottom percentile.
We did not use the distribution of body weight because age specific distribution was unavailable. Most people gain weight as they age.
Non-related traits, (non co-varying) traits were chosen. Non-related traits are traits that are least likely to be associated with each other. For example, you can be really good-looking but not too bright. We cannot use a criterion like income because it is influenced by looks, emotional intelligence, and intelligence.

Calculations for the Number of American Singles You Have to Meet
To find the final probability to finding a soulmate based on your criteria, the following calculation was performed:
|
Final Probability to Find a Soulmate =
|
Gender Preference Probability x
Ethnicity Probability x
Marital Status Probability x
Religion Probability x
Probability of Trait 1 x
Probability of Trait 2, etc…
|
If your selection for ethnicity were too specific, Religion Probability was excluded. The reason is because the reported distribution of religion is not true for all ethnicities. For examples, the major religion of singles from Asia or Middle East is not Christian. Black (African-American) and white singles are more likely to be Christian. Future version of the Soulmate Calculator will include probabilities for religion of certain ethnicities if those statistics could be found or calculated.
The number of American singles is calculated:
Number of American Singles =1/ Final Probability to Find a Soulmate
|
The main assumption is that sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion are distributed equally across the America. In reality this is not true. Here are some examples:
- If you live in San Francisco, there will be a higher probability of homosexual singles than heterosexual singles.
- If you live in the California or Texas, the number of Hispanic singles is higher than other parts of the country.
- Southern states will have a higher percentage of Protestant singles than Catholic singles.
Future versions of the Soulmate Calculator will be more specific to region, states, or cities.
