    The sexual benefit you are receiving from your lover may make up for the emotional, financial, opportunity, and break-up costs of being in a bad relationship.

  2. Commitment like marriage will take longer if you are getting sex for free or at little cost.
    Marriage increases break-up cost. Why would you want to increase your break-up cost when you are already receiving all the benefits of relationship? This is the "Why buy the cow when the milk is free" argument.

  3. People who are sexually active will devote a lot of time, money, and energy to remain that way.
    For most people, having sex is a very pleasurable experience and a very powerful psychological positive reinforcement. Like heroine addicts, some people will do anything for sex.

  4. Impotency or infertility causes stress in a relationship.
    Being impotent prevents you from fulfilling your lover's sexual needs. Having a family provides for you esteems needs. If your spouse is infertile, it will cause you additional emotional cost. Infertility treatments are every expensive, increasing your financial cost. If those treatments fail, the adoption process is usually very stressful and expensive.
